Who Does Empower The Workers’ Union Represent?

The easy answer is we represent all workers. Every worker, whatever the sector of work, be it public or private, deserves a say in the pay and conditions of service in their job. Above all we represent workers who find themselves in jobs where there is no union in the workplace but where a union is badly needed and Empower The Workers’ Union is there to represent and organise workers where the larger and ‘established’ unions do not bother. 75% of workers are not in a trade union and that leaves them at the mercy of the worst of employment practices and exploitation.

The union is member led and this means that our efforts are determined by the very people who belong to the union. As we grow some sectors of work have become the core organising sectors for the union. Join Empower The Workers’ Union and get involved in leading campaigns that matter to you and your colleagues.

Social Care Workers

Many of our members work in social care; from children’s homes to adult social care and caring for the elderly. All report the same enormous challenges to this vital and important work: Poor pay, no occupational sick pay, privatised profit driven businesses filling the gap but leaving workers at the mercy of bullying managers.

Members are fighting back and joining Empower to organise their workplaces. It is time to campaign for better: Better pay, occupational sick pay, fair management practices and above all respect for the essential job that they do.

Machine Operators

Small scale manufacturing in the UK has some of the worst examples of exploitative employment practices of any sector of work. Gone are the days of the large unionised plant; the world of manufacturing is increasingly small scale and run by unscrupulous bosses with no care to health and safety or fair terms and conditions.

And, frequently, daring to speak out means losing your job.

Members who work in manufacturing report abusive and bullying management practices, poor pay, a lack of sick pay and oppressive absence procedures. Employment law is flouted and zero hour contacts abound.

Empower The Workers’ Union members are organising and fighting back where it counts - in their workplace.

Hotel Workers

Long hours, poor pay and punitive management practices are rife within the hotel sector and people are joining Empower The Workers’ Union to take back control of their working lives.

Too often, hotel workers find themselves with no choice but to work dangerously long hours with no or little sick pay and this has only got worse with a severe staff shortage following the pandemic. Large and small hotel chains are competing with each other in a race to the bottom for pay and conditions and workers are joining Empower The Workers’ Union to say enough is enough.

Whatever your sector…

Empower The Workers’ Union is member led. This means that our priorities and campaigning is decided by you and people like you. Being a member brings you into contact with other workers, throughout the UK, who face the same challenges at work that you and your colleagues face. We believe that social care workers know best what must change in social care; hotel workers, machine operators, health care workers, teachers, office workers…all know best what needs to be done in their sectors. Empower The Workers’ Union is organised into sectors and as membership grows the union will add to the sectors we represent. We need you and your colleagues to get involved and become Empowered.
